The Utzon Stool was designed in the 1950s by Jorn Utzon, Denmark’s most renowned architect and best known for designing the Sydney Opera House. It is an elegant piece of craftsmanship that reflects his architectural principles by combining organic forms with functional design. Created during the same period as his most iconic project, it shares the sculptural quality and geometric character of his architectural work.

Comprised of a solid beech wood seat and a pressed beech veneer base, both finished with white pigmented oil, the seat and base are connected by an untreated brass ring to provide a way for the wood to expand and contract. The seat consists of seven laminated wooden discs, each crafted from two solid pieces of beech wood and shaped on a lathe. As each disc is individually turned, subtle variations in the grain and surface give every stool a unique character. Their smooth, organic forms create a tactile contrast to the stool’s angular base. The base is constructed from 17 layers of 2 mm beech veneer, all aligned in the same grain direction to ensure a uniform appearance.

The Utzon Stool serves as both extra seating and a sculptural statement piece in any space.
