Created by Italian Architect and Designer Tobia Scarpa, the Seki-Han Floor Lamp was originally designed in 1963, and then reissued in 2015. The design is a testament to Scarpa's mastery of form and deep understanding of wood craftsmanship. Named after a traditional Japanese rice dish served on special occasions, Seki-Han is conceived as a living presence, where the immateriality of light meets the warmth and tactility of wood.
Constructed from two vertical ash wood blades joined by chrome-plated metal fittings, the Seki-Han Floor Lamp combines sculptural form with functional flexibility. The blades rotate around a central tubular light source, allowing the direction and amount of light to be adjusted as required. A raw black iron base provides stability, while a metal collar separates the wooden structure from the base. The lamp is fitted with a custom-developed dimmable linear LED light source and can also accommodate standard T8 LED tubes.
Emitting both direct and indirect light, the Seki-Han Floor Lamp offers a range of lighting effects depending on the position of the blades. The adjustable structure allows for symmetrical or asymmetrical light distribution, while a narrow opening remains visible even when the blades are almost completely closed, creating a soft glow from within.
Seki-Han is also available as a suspension light.
