The Sala Piece is inspired by Can Lis, the Mallorca residence of Danish architect Jørn Utzon, and reflects how he merged architecture with the surrounding landscape through the thoughtful use of materials and form. Influenced by the on-site joinery at Can Lis, it embodies a balance of rustic domesticity and architectural lightness.
Crafted from Douglas fir, it presents a timeless quality, where precise craftsmanship meets natural warmth. Known for its characterful grain and elegant tone, Douglas fir brings a sense of visual harmony to modern living spaces. Featuring a square surface and a cross-plank base, the design highlights its clean geometry and solid construction.
The surface showcases a distinctive checkerboard-like grain pattern, created by carefully aligning sections of Douglas fir to emphasise tonal variation and natural texture. Its thick wooden planks ensure stability, making it suitable for everyday use as a low stool, side table or statement piece.
Over time, the wood's warm reddish-pink tones fade into a subtle grey, giving each piece a timeless patina.
