Za is a modest and humble stool series created by well-known Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa with purposeful simplicity in mind, highlighting Emeco's heritage in aluminium craftsmanship. Named after the Japanese word “za,” which means “a place to sit,” Za stools are constructed through a complicated 77-step process - sharing techniques that have been used to produce the original 1006 Navy Chair since 1944.

The stool is simplistic in form: A convex round seat, four legs joined with a circular footrest and a subtle concave top to keep the user seated in the centre of the stool. Crafted with recycled spun aluminium sheet and square profile extrusions; the stool is lightweight, remarkably sturdy and non-corrosive. The Za is a reliable and timeless stool, built for lifetimes of use, to be kept, cherished and passed on for generations.

Naoto Fukasawa on the design: "The Navy Chair is one of the most identified icons in America. I had an image of a round stool, which could become a natural part of the Navy chair family, like a brother or sister."

The hand-brushed and powder-coated version of this stool is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The Za Bar/Counter Stool is also available as a low stool.
