Originally designed in 1951 by Ib Kofod-Larsen, the iconic Knitting Chair has been updated with careful attention to its original craftsmanship and materials. In 2025, Audo Copenhagen introduced this version of the chair, as part of their Everyday Icons collection.
The collection reimagines Danish classics using modern materials and colours, while also introducing new pieces designed to become cherished parts of everyday life across generations. Combining heritage with a contemporary aesthetic, the updated Knitting Chair both preserves and evolves a beloved Danish design.
Thoughtfully adapted to today’s standards of quality, comfort and design, the chair is now available for the first time in black-stained solid oak with a lacquered finish that subtly highlights the wood grain texture, paired with Ivory Barnum Bouclé upholstery. The chair retains its triangular construction, enveloping seat and backrest, and distinctive cut-outs designed for resting the elbows. Its masterful proportion and ergonomic design offer optimal sitting comfort, while the minimal and timeless form brings sophistication to any space.
The Knitting chair is also available in sheepskin, leather or fabric upholstered versions. See the chair on display in our London showroom.

All my life I’ve sat in chairs unsuitable for when I sit and knit for a bit. Very doubtful there was such a thing as a knitting chair I was totally amazed to find there is such a thing! I didn’t get to try one out before purchase. I knew if it was designed well it would be perfect. What a beautiful chair. I knit every evening for hours and this is such a comfortable piece of furniture.
Hello Danielle,
What a fantastic review, and amazing that you actually use the chair for it's original purpose! As well being great for knitting in, it also works well as a reading chair, or even just holding a phone in a comfortable position to read from.
We would love to see a photo of how you use it in your home. This is our review of the month and we will be in touch with a £50 store credit for you!
