Artek Chair 69 was designed by Alvar Aalto in 1935. Chair 69 is aesthetically simple and pleasing to the eye, it is also one of the most recognised dining chairs of Scandinavian modernism. Alvar Aalto was granted a patent for the method of bending wood in 1933. Aalto's invention of the 'L-leg' made the Stool 60 famous and paved the way for the iconic dining Chair 69 to receive similar fame. The same technique is used to bend the legs of Chair 69, which are mounted directly to the underside of the rounded seat, without the need for complicated connecting elements. 

Manufactured in Finland's 'A-Factory', each Chair 69 requires 25 different stages of production, and it is entirely made from high-quality Finnish birch. The carefully selected trees are cut during the winter at 60-80 years old. They are dried in the factory lumberyard for a period of one year, waiting for the next steps. Such considered construction only serves to makes the chair even more durable and sturdy. The Artek Chair 69 fits perfectly into a variety of interior spaces. It is a timeless classic, representing the quintessence of functionalist furniture design.
