The Belleville Chair Plastic was designed by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec for Vitra. 'Belleville' (or 'beautiful town' in English) is the name of the vibrant Paris neighbourhood where the designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have their studio. With Belleville the Bouroullec Brothers have taken a classic French café chair and reconfigured it using modern manufacturing techniques and new material opportunities; the result is super-comfortable lightweight stacking chair with a contemporary silhouette

The Belleville Chair is a technically sophisticated plastic chair consisting of two components - a structural frame and a seat shell. Tracing the calligraphic lines of the legs and back, the slender black frame supports a thin shell that tapers from the wide seat surface into a narrow backrest. This type of construction opens up new perspectives for the plastic chair in relation to its material composition: the identity of the Belleville Chair is defined by its seat shell.

Constructed from polyamide, the Belleville Chair Plastic is durable and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The chair can be stacked up to 5 chairs for extra practicality. The Belleville Chair Plastic comes in five different seat shell options and is also available as a wooden chair

    This product is designed by
    Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec

There are few, if any, designers as well renowned and respected as Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec - often known simply as the Bouroullec Brothers. Ronan is a graduate of the École supérieure des Arts décoratifs in Paris and Erwan attended the École nationale supérieure des Arts in Cergy before starting their own studio together in Paris.

The design duo started their practice as joint partners in 1999 and quickly established a reputation for offering a new perspective on materiality and purpose. Since then they have worked with some of the world’s most illustrious design brands, creating products which are already considered to be future classics. Their work ranges from small utilitarian objects to architectural projects. In...
