Originally designed by Finnish Architect Alvar Aalto in 1933 for Artek, the Aalto Table Foldable is a minimal and iconic Scandinavian design. Alvar Aalto was granted a patent for the method of bending wood in 1933. Aalto's invention of the 'L-leg' has made his table series famous. The structural L-bend legs are mounted directly to the underside of the table without the need for complicated connecting elements.
A new topology of the Aalto Table Collection designed for compact living: The foldable leaf effortlessly extends to offer extra dining room while occupying minimal space. Its sliding mechanism underneath the table ensures the leaf remains stable. Made from high-quality natural birch from Finland and finished with a top surface of birch, linoleum or high-pressure laminate; the Aalto Table Foldable is one of the most timeless design icons from the 1930s.
The linoleum tabletop is ideal for writing, while the easy-to-clean laminate provides a slightly more robust option, the natural birch is arguably the most alluring. With Aalto's signature L-legs and edge bands of Finnish birch, the table provides natural beauty and warmth, adapting easily between public and private environments in accordance with Alvar Aalto's conception of versatile furniture.
To celebrate the launch of the Aalto foldable table, three limited two-tone linoleum editions are available. Inspired by the highly sought-after vintage Aalto foldable tables, the two tones reflect the natural patina that differed between the tabletop and drop leaf. Over time, the closed drop leaf is exposed to varying levels of light and contact, resulting in a unique colour pattern.
